Eastex Freeway shut down heading north near I-10 due

An autoped crash involving an 18-wheeler has shut down all mainlanes on the Eastex Freeway near downtown Houston.

HOUSTON — Houston commuters are facing significant delays Tuesday morning after an auto-pedestrian crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down all main lanes on the Eastex Freeway near East Freeway near downtown.

According to Houston TranStar, the incident happened at 3:26 a.m., has brought traffic to a standstill in the area as emergency crews respond and work to clear the scene.

Drivers heading northbound on the Eastex Freeway toward downtown or connecting to the I-10 should expect severe delays and are strongly advised to seek alternate routes.

Alternate routes

Drivers heading north on I-69 should consider the following detours:

  • Exit I-10 East or West before the I-69 merge and take Lockwood Drive or Waco Street to navigate around the closure.
  • Use US-59 Northbound feeder roads where available.
  • Consider Hardy Toll Road as an alternate route if coming from downtown or the East End.
