Union Pacific said multiple “critical” track crossovers were left out of service due to the derailment.

HOUSTON — A train derailment in east Houston could lead to traffic issues in the area this weekend.

According to Union Pacific, the derailment happened at the Carr Street Junction on Tuesday. The company said multiple “critical” track crossovers were left out of service due to the derailment.

“The east side of Houston, including the Houston West Belt, Harrisburg, Galveston and Houston East Belt subs will all see increased traffic as trains route around the out of service crossovers,” Union Pacific said.

They also said the East End and the Fifth Ward would see additional train activity until the repairs were completed.

Union Pacific said it hoped the crossovers would be back in service on Saturday.
