A person died after a vehicle flipped and caught fire on FM 529 early Tuesday. Deputies pulled the driver from the flames and performed CPR, but could not save them.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead and another injured after a violent crash involving a vehicle that flipped and caught fire in northwest Harris County early Tuesday morning, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Deputies responded to the scene at FM 529 and Fairview Street where they found a car overturned and engulfed in flames with a person trapped inside.
“Units arriving on-scene were able to get the person out,” Gonzalez posted on X. “CPR was administered, but the person was pronounced deceased.”
A second person was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Deputy injured while trying to save driver
One Harris County deputy suffered a minor burn to the hand while pulling the trapped person from the burning vehicle. Other deputies were treated for smoke inhalation, but all are expected to be OK, Gonzalez said.
FM-529 closed in all directions
As of this report, FM-529 remains shut down in all directions while investigators work to determine what led up to the crash.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
