Demolition of a landmark outlet mall-turned-eyesore south of Dallas has begun, and new stores and restaurants are slated to sprout along I-35 about the time the bluebonnets bloom in the spring.

The Outlets at Hillsboro, once a major shopping hub along I-35, is being bulldozed to make way for a new development by Dallas-based Glaser Retail Partners LLC.

The $75 million project aims to attract a big-box retailer — potentially a home improvement, hardware or major grocery store — as its anchor, said Brian Glaser, president of Glaser Retail.

The restaurants will include a mix of national chains, fast food, quick-service, a coffee shop and a sit-down restaurant, Glaser said. He declined to identify the tenants, but a search of Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings shows a Chili’s Grill & Bar, Panda Express, and Waffle House among those that have applied to build at the site.
