AUSTIN (KXAN) — Local nonprofit Con Mi MADRE, or CMM, will seek a new executive director to lead its mission preparing Latina first-generation college students and their moms for their transition to college life, according to a Tuesday announcement.
Johanna Moya Fábregas has led Con Mi MADRE, or CMM, as its executive director for nearly seven years.
“This decision comes with deep gratitude to the vast community of individuals who have walked alongside me in service of our mission,” Fábregas said.
Her last day will be August 1. In her announcement, she called the nonprofit “the greatest honor of my professional life.”
“Together — with our incredible staff, board, and community of champions — we’ve nurtured a movement that is working to empower young Latinas and their mothers to rise, learn, and ultimately become strong leaders within our communities,” she added.
The group has worked with nearly 1,000 families during her tenure, she wrote. The announcement says that 97% of CMM’s students graduated high school and 70% enrolled in college.
CMM Head of Operations Marcie Chapa Cast will serve as interim executive director while the nonprofit’s board searches for its next director.
