A beloved Coca-Cola flavor is coming back, but there’s a reason you won’t see it on all store shelves.
WASHINGTON — Diet Cherry Coke is officially returning for a limited time to store shelves this summer, but you won’t be able to get it everywhere.
Rumors began to circulate in January that Coca-Cola was planning to bring back the fan-favorite flavor that was discontinued in 2020.
Over the weekend, the Instagram account Snackolator revved up the anticipation even more by reporting Diet Cherry Coke would be returning with retro packaging.
And now we have official confirmation from Coca-Cola.
A spokesperson from The Coca-Cola Company confirmed on Tuesday that Retro Diet Cherry Coke will be available starting in mid-July for a limited time only.
The Atlanta-based company also confirmed that Retro Diet Cherry Coke will only be available at the Kroger family of stores.
While Coca-Cola has yet to specify which stores that’ll include, Kroger’s portfolio of stores covers: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, Smith’s Food and Drug.
Earlier this year, Coke added another new flavor to its lineup: Coca-Cola Orange Cream.
The company also introduced raspberry-flavored Coca-Cola Spiced in early 2024, saying the offering would be a permanent addition to its lineup. But the company abruptly pulled Coca-Cola Spiced off the market just a few months later.
In an interview last year, Coca-Cola’s North American marketing chief, Shakir Moin, said it used to take the company at least a year to develop a new product. But it’s trying to move more quickly.
