Chisolm Summit to transform Burleson with 3,000 homes

800 acres of land in west Burleson is set to become 3,000 homes, parks, and trails. It’s part of a development reshaping the city’s future over 20 years.

BURLESON, Texas — A major master-planned community is set to take shape on the west side of Burleson, where more than 800 acres of undeveloped land will be transformed over the next two decades.

The project, called Chisolm Summit, is the first development of its kind in the city. It will include approximately 3,000 new homes, 100 acres of parks, and 10 miles of trails. A newly built road running through the area is expected to eventually accommodate up to 30,000 vehicles per day, connecting Chisolm Trail to State Highway 174 and Interstate 35.

The land is being developed by R.A. Development, a company that has been planning the project for the last decade. Justin Bond, who grew up in Burleson and is the Chief Operations Officer with R.A. Development, says the goal is to manage the city’s growth in a thoughtful way.

“Any time you have a new big project, people will have questions—and I appreciate that very much,” Bond said. “We can’t forget, though, that the house I live in and love today was a field some time before I was there.”

Burleson has seen significant yet steady growth over the past decade. Between 2013 and 2023, the city’s population increased by nearly 15,000 residents.

City officials say the pace of growth—about 3% in recent years—is manageable, and that projects like Chisolm Summit are essential to meet the needs of current and future residents.

According to DeAnna Phillips, a spokesperson for the City of Burleson, the development is projected to contribute around $1 billion to the city’s tax roll. Beyond housing, infrastructure improvements are already underway. A new water tower and sewer pump have been installed to support the area.

Nearby, the city plans to bring in a trade school called Craftmasters. The campus will cover 62 acres for students and their corporate headquarters. By 2031, the goal is to enroll 5,000 students. R.A. Development is part of the construction team for this project, too.

In addition, there is a partnership with Joshua ISD to bring a new elementary school to the area, according to Bond.

City leaders and developers say they aim to maintain Burleson’s charm, even as growth accelerates.

Construction on homes is expected to begin in about 18 months. Within three years, between 300 and 400 homes are projected to be completed.

The entire development is planned across a 20-year timeline.
