According to Baytown police, the child was unresponsive when he was pulled from a pool. First responders saved his life.
HOUSTON — A 10-year-old Baytown boy is recovering at home after nearly drowning last month.
It was Saturday, May 24. Baytown officers say they were called to a home on East Road at around 11:30 a.m. about a possible drowning.
When officers got there, they found two men — a fire marshal and an off-duty paramedic — performing CPR on the child, identified as Gavin. His older brother had pulled him from the pool after finding him unresponsive.
Baytown officers helped carry Gavin to EMS crews so he could be transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann. One officer also drove Gavin’s mother to the hospital, making sure she could be with her son.
Thanks to the quick efforts of Gavin’s family, bystanders, first responders, and hospital staff, Gavin survived.
This week, Gavin stopped by the Baytown Public Safety building to personally thank the police and fire department teams who helped save his life. He delivered a letter and shared his gratitude face-to-face with those who were there that day.
According to the department, Gavin is doing well and recovering at home.
“We don’t take moments like these for granted—they remind us why we serve,” Baytown Police said in a post. “Stay safe, buddy!”
