Child unresponsive after being left in car, Galena Park police say

Galena Park police said a child was left in a car around 6 a.m. Tuesday. When they checked on the child later in the day, the child was unresponsive.

GALENA PARK, Texas — A child was taken to an area hospital after being found unresponsive in a car in the Galena Park area on Tuesday, according to police.

It happened at a facility along the Houston Ship Channel just south of Clinton Drive.

Galena Park police said a plant worker brought the child to work and left them in the car around 6 a.m.

It’s unclear when they checked on the child, but when they did, the 9-year-old was unresponsive, police said. Police didn’t provide an update on the child’s condition.

Air 11 was over the scene on Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m. In the facility’s parking lot, crime scene tape was blocking off three vehicles — a car, an SUV and a truck. It’s unclear which vehicle the child was inside. Multiple law enforcement vehicles were also in the parking lot.

Workers were seen huddling underneath an overhang nearby.

This is a developing story and updates will be added to this article when they become available. KHOU 11 News reporter Maria Aguilera is heading to the scene to get more information.
