Celebrate Summer Solstice at Houston’s Kinder Land Bridge

Memorial Park will host a summer solstice celebration on June 20, 2025, at Kinder Land Bridge.

HOUSTON — Celebrate the arrival of the summer solstice at Memorial Park’s Kinder Land Bridge West Mound on Friday.

The free event celebrates the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the Northern Hemisphere at 9:42 p.m.

Set against Houston’s premier green spaces, the gathering encourages visitors to enjoy the changing seasons and connect with nature as the sun sets on the year’s longest day.

The West Mound at Kinder Land Bridge acts as a solar compass, designed to align with the four major solar events: the solstices and equinoxes. The compass brings awareness to nature driven changes every year.

The design incorporates dark stone bands in the pathways and benches, which align with the sun’s position during these celestial milestones

This thoughtful infrastructure, according to organizers, “encourages an awareness of changing seasons and inspires gatherings throughout the year, especially on and around these four celestial occasions.”

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere on the circular lawn.

Sunrise on June 20 will occur at 6:22 a.m., but the official summer solstice moment comes much later—at 9:42 p.m.

The celebration takes place at 7575 North Picnic Lane in Houston. On-site parking is available at the Kinder Land Bridge & Wolff Prairie and Cullen Running Trails lots for $2 per three hours, with free street parking along Memorial Loop Drive.

For more information, visitors can refer to Memorial Park’s parking map to plan ahead and make the most of this seasonal celebration.
