Boyfriend heartbroken after woman’s death at Lake Houston

Ashley Gil, 20, was found dead at Lake Houston Thursday.

HOUSTON — Twenty-year-old Ashley Gil was found dead in Lake Houston on Thursday, two days after she disappeared while riding a jet ski, and her boyfriend has shared his disbelief and confusion about the tragic incident that has left him and her family searching for answers.

Gil was recovered from the lake after falling off her jet ski earlier Tuesday. Investigators say she wasn’t wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident, but her boyfriend Jason Campos Rodriguez, who lived with Gil, says he’s confused about how the tragedy occurred.

Rodriguez said Gil had sent him a video earlier that same day showing her wearing a life jacket. He described his girlfriend as someone who was “careful and cautious,” making the circumstances of her death even more puzzling for those who knew her.

“When you see someone that has so much potential, leave this world. This is just I mean, it’s just sad in and of itself, and it’s hard to you know accept that she’s not here anymore,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez was out of town for work when he received the devastating news about Gil’s disappearance and subsequent death. He and Ashley’s family are now making funeral arrangements for the young woman.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help the family with funeral expenses as they cope with their sudden loss.
