Gearbox Software released another trailer for the latest Borderlands game, showing off some new characters and familiar faces.
FRISCO, Texas — The fifth mainline title in the acclaimed ‘Borderlands’ series is set to hit shelves in September, and fans are getting a deeper look into a new group of vault hunters.
Over the weekend, Texas-based Gearbox Software released a new trailer for ‘Borderlands 4’. The game was announced last August, and now, just months from release, developers are revealing more details on the game’s story, characters and setting.
Borderlands is one of the most popular video game series of all time. The series is made by Frisco-based developer Gearbox Software, which was recently bought for $460 million by Take-Two Interactive.
Unlike past titles, which have taken place on the planet Pandora, ‘Borderlands 4’ is taking us to an entirely different planet, Kairos. The trailer showcased parts of the new setting, including a technologically advanced city and an array of biomes, ranging from a desert to a tundra to a savanna, but gameplay footage from this weekend’s Borderlands 4 Fan Fest gave an even closer look at the setting, characters and weapons players can use.
Within seconds, the trailer gives a glimpse of four characters, the game’s playable vault hunters. Throughout the trailer, we get glimpses of these characters’ unique abilities, which have been a staple of the RPG series.
Despite a new setting, fans got a sneak peek at some familiar characters, namely Mad Moxxi, a barkeep who has appeared in all other ‘Borderlands’ titles, and Claptrap, an obnoxious fan favorite robot who serves as a guide for the player in other games. Amara and Zane, characters from Borderlands 3, also made an appearance.
In terms of enemies, the iconic psycho will be back and graces the cover of the new game, as it has for all other iterations.
The trailer also introduced fans to three new characters: The Timekeeper, Callis and Idolator Sol. All three characters are expected to be prominent villains in the game, and the Timekeeper is being presented as the “big bad” of the story, according to a Borderlands blog post.
Gearbox announced that the game is available for pre-order on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and that the game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
