Be patient while TxDOT repaves Houston’s Southwest Freeway | How long it’ll take

Repaving is happening from the West Loop to the Beltway.

HOUSTON — Driving on the Southwest Freeway can be quite bumpy at times. The good news — it’s going to change. The bad news — it will give you some headaches while it does.

Right now, the Texas Department of Transportation is working to repave the highway from the 610 West Loop all the way to the West Belt.

TxDOT says it has milled half of the main lanes and all HOV lanes since April.

Right now, they’re working on the HOV lanes. Once they get that completed, they’ll move over to the main lanes.

The project as a whole should wrap up in summer of 2026, but having that roadwork there gives you a bit of a headache in the meantime.
