Bastrop ISD names interim superintendent as search continues

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Bastrop Independent School District Board of Trustees selected its interim superintendent as Dr. Kristi Lee, according to a district news release.

Lee was selected as the interim superintendent in the district’s Tuesday board meeting, the district said in a news release Wednesday.

This comes after Superintendent Barry Edwards announced his retirement last month after 37 years of public education, according to the district.

Lee has served as the district’s deputy superintendent since 2022, with her career spanning more than 20 years in public education, the district said. She has served in roles as a “communications director, high school principal, elementary principal, and teacher.”

“It is a privilege to serve as Interim Superintendent, and I appreciate the Board’s trust and support,” Lee said in the release. “This is a pivotal moment for Bastrop ISD, a time full of promise and opportunity. Together, we will confidently move Bastrop ISD forward, with students at the center of every decision.”

Bastrop ISD Board President Ashley Mutschink said the board “has deep confidence in Dr. Lee’s leadership and dedication to our schools and community and know the district is in excellent hands.”

The district said the board will “keep the community informed” as it moves forward in its search for a new superintendent.
