It’s not the kind of band you expect to see headlining a show at the Bayou Music Center.
HOUSTON — It’s not the kind of band you expect to see headlining a show at the Bayou Music Center.
They play rock, rap and even country—an unexpected mix that’s caught the attention of thousands across the country. But what really surprises many is that they’re all Catholic priests.
“This is not a full-time gig,” said Father Kevin Lenius of Midland, Texas. “We are parish priests serving the people.”
Led by Father David Michael Moses—who writes the songs and serves as the frontman—the group features priests from across the U.S. who all share a passion for music and ministry.
Their sound is far from traditional church hymns.
“There is rap, rock… different genres and softer songs,” said Father Victor Perez, pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Houston.
Despite living in different cities, the band still finds a way to rehearse—kind of.
“Well he sends us the music ahead of time and practice,” Lenius said. “We don’t rehearse until the day of.”
The idea started with Moses, who invited fellow priests to explore this creative—and deeply spiritual—side of their vocation.
“It’s also a place to celebrate and have fun,” Lenius said. “The priests are human, too. We like to have fun.”
The group’s three-city summer tour sold out in every location, including Thursday night’s performance in Houston.
“This is a big venue,” Perez said. “Very exciting. Nerve-wracking.”
But beyond the lights and high energy, the band says the goal is to bring people together and celebrate something greater.
“To show we can all be together in this—and that life is something to celebrate,” Lenius said.
With every beat and every lyric, they hope to inspire joy, faith and community in a way that connects across age, background and belief.
