Austin Restaurant Weeks: How to participate, support Central Texas Food Bank

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Foodies will be able to support the Central Texas Food Bank later this month through mid-September by indulging in special menus and drinks at select restaurants.

Austin Restaurant Weeks is happening from Aug. 29 through Sept. 14. The event features “exclusive prix fixe menus and drink specials” from 100 Austin-area restaurants, and part of the price of each meal will go to the Central Texas Food Bank, the organization said.

Participating restaurants include Juliet Italian Kitchen, Phoebe’s Diner, North Italia, Dovetail Pizza, Carve American Grille, VIA 313, Lucky Robot, Thai Fresh, Aba, Hillside Farmacy and more.

The restaurants will offer prix fixe menus for $25, $50 or $75, as well as cocktail, beer and wine specials, according to Central Texas Food Bank. Restaurants may also have a dedicated special menu item.

“Austin Restaurant Weeks is a reminder about the power of food and how it unites a community with something as simple as a shared meal can be part of a bigger solution,” said Sari M. Vatske, Central Texas Food Bank president and CEO, in a statement. “By dining out during these two weeks, you’re not only supporting local restaurants, you’re also helping ensure Central Texans have the food and resources they need to thrive.”

This year, pastry chef Philip Speer, owner and operator of Comedor, a Mexican restaurant in downtown Austin, serves as the event’s ambassador. Central Texas Food Bank said he is a “local legend in the Austin hospitality industry” and a longtime supporter of the organization. He’s a four-time James Beard Foundation nominee.

“I’m so thrilled to be an ambassador for an event that highlights the very best parts of the culinary community in Austin. For two weeks, we will showcase the delicious food and hospitality the city has come to be known for, while supporting our struggling neighbors with dignity and compassion,” said Speer in a statement.
