AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it will step up traffic enforcement on Ranch to Market Road 2222, according to a social media post Wednesday.
This is happening after APD received complaints about reckless drivers on that highway, the agency said. That road is also sometimes called Farm to Market 2222 or Ranch Road 2222.
“Austin Police is stepping up traffic enforcement on FM 2222 after listening to the concerns of our community!” it said. “Our North Metro Tactical Unit recently issued citations and made an arrest targeting speeding, reckless driving, and noise.”
KXAN previously reported on another period of heightened enforcement on RM 2222 in 2024. Residents living along that road told KXAN they’ve been worried about their safety and frequently see motorcyclists race on the road.
“It’s dangerous and it’s a concern to a lot of us who live here along 2222 where we drive it every day, and you have to be careful when you pull under 2222 that you don’t meet some oncoming motorcycles who are going to run the red light,” one resident told KXAN in 2024.
The increased enforcement will happen with the help of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“Drive safely, Austin – it’s a shared road!”
