Arlington’s Beach at Lake Viridian closes after unsupervised gathering

In a meeting last week, multiple residents at the Viridian expressed concerns after an incident on May 30.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Beach at Lake Viridian in Arlington is closed indefinitely after an incident on May 30 prompted a police response.

Police were called to the Viridian Beach area in the 1200 block of Viridian Park Lane before 6:45 p.m. May 30 to respond to reports of “a large gathering of unsupervised teens” who were “blocking residents’ access to the neighborhood.”

Arlington police estimate there were more than 200 teens gathered in the park before it was cleared.

In a meeting last week, residents voiced their frustration and concerns about issues like traffic, trash and noise at the beach. While most wanted the issues at the beach addressed, some were pleading for a resolution that would allow it to remain open.

The Arlington Report, a local news outlet, was in attendance at the meeting and estimates there were about 80 people there.

“There was a lot of passionate people there. There was more people that wanted it altogether just closed, than opened. There was maybe three people that wanted to keep it open, and then a bunch of other people that wanted to close it altogether. Whenever they went to do the actual vote, one of the board members moved to close it… and then open it right before Labor Day and that was very quickly gotten rid of, and they were like, ‘No, we’re not going to do that. We’re just going to close it indefinitely,’ and then, yeah, passed unanimously,” said Chris Moss, reporting fellow at the Arlington Report.

The Viridian board ultimately agreed unanimously to close the beach indefinitely and appoint a board of one member and five residents to consider future steps for the amenity.
