Houston police say Isaac Jasper Robinson, 22, shot and killed Tyler Martinez, 24, at an apartment complex on South MacGregor Way on Friday night.
HOUSTON — A Texas Southern University student was arrested over the weekend after a shooting inside a parking garage where he lives, according to the Houston Police Department.
The shooting happened around 8:10 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the 4460 Mac apartment complex.
HPD said Isaac Jasper Robinson, 22, shot and killed Tyler Martinez, 24, on South MacGregor Way across from MacGregor Park after an altercation escalated.
“What started the incident was the suspect and victim got into a physical altercation in the parking garage,” HPD Lt. Khan said. “And then at that time, the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.”
Both men reportedly lived in the apartment complex where the shooting happened, but didn’t know each other.
During his first court appearance on Saturday, the judge said Martinez had Robinson pinned to the ground but then got up and tried to walk away. That’s when a woman retrieved a gun from a vehicle and handed it to Robinson, who then shot Martinez multiple times, the judge said.
Martinez died at the scene.
Robinson initially fled the scene but later returned and confessed to the shooting, HPD said on Monday.
He’s charged with murder.
Prosecutors asked for a $250,000 bond. The defense attorney requested a $75,000 bond, saying Robinson has no criminal history in Harris County and is working for a local security company.
After listening to both sides and reviewing the evidence, the judge set his bond at $150,000.
Robinson’s court appearance scheduled for Monday was reset.
Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call HPD or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
