Memorial City Mall announced details of its curfew. This follows one that was put in place last week at Willowbrook Mall.
HOUSTON — Another Houston-area mall will be enforcing a temporary youth curfew.
Memorial City Mall will require anyone under 18 be accompanied by a parent or adult 21 or older with ID checks starting Saturday. This starts when the mall opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. It lasts on both days through closing.
Officials cite social media posts about a possible gathering and say disruptions will not be tolerated.
Similar curfews were recently put in place at Willowbrook Mall. The first one was this past Saturday. The curfew will be in place again this Saturday. The policy at Willowbrook begins at 2 p.m. and applies to anyone under 18 years of age. They must be accompanied by someone who is 21 or older.
Also this past Saturday, police responded to a large gathering at Katy Mills Mall. Scanner traffic indicated officers were monitoring a crowd of about 40 teenagers near a store inside Katy Mills. Dispatch audio also suggested police were responding to a possible fight, along with reports of teens running through the parking lot.
“Teen takeovers” typically begin with social media posts that draw large groups of young people to a specific location. In some cities, these gatherings have led to fights, vandalism and other disorderly conduct.
