Anker PowerCore 10000 recalled due to fire risk

Roughly 1,158,000 units were sold online via Anker’s website, Amazon, Newegg and eBay from June 2016 through December 2022. The product cost about $27.

SAN FRANCISCO — More than a million portable Anker chargers were recalled Thursday due to fire hazards caused by the lithium-ion battery overheating.

The Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks were recalled after 19 reports of fires and explosions, and 11 reports of property damage costing more than $60,000, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. Two people also suffered from minor burns due to the portable charger, the release says.

Anker estimated roughly 1,158,000 units were sold online at their website, Amazon, Newegg and eBay from June 2016 through December 2022. The product cost about $27.

The portable charger has the brand name “Anker” engraved into the front and the model number “A1263” on the flat bottom. It came in black, blue, red and white.

Affected models will also have a serial number marked “SN” near the model number on the bottom. Customers are asked to submit a claim with their serial number, photos and proof of purchase to see if their specific unit is part of the recall. Proof of purchase is not required to participate in the recall, according to Anker.

Customers with the recalled portable charger are asked to immediately stop using it and submit a claim for $30 gift card for another charger or Anker product, or a replacement model if supplies last.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission requests people not throw away the recalled unit since the battery can cause fires. Contact your local municipal household hazardous waste collection center to see where you can properly dispose of the recalled charger.
