While the police department mourns Sgt. J.D White Jr, they are telling people to watch out for fake fundraising campaigns.
ANGLETON, Texas — The Angleton Police Department has issued a warning to residents about unauthorized fundraising efforts circulating in Sgt. J.D. White’s name.
Sgt. Jonathan David “J.D.” White was a 19-year veteran of the Angleton Police Department. He was killed in the line of duty on Sunday, June 1, at the age of 51. A memorial service to honor his life and service was held on Wednesday, June 11.
According to a Facebook post by the Angleton PD, individuals have been asking for donations, claiming to benefit Sgt. White’s family, without the family’s consent or knowledge.
“Sgt. White’s family has not been contacted or given the approval for solicitations of donations in his memory,” the department said. “Please DO NOT donate through any other source or GoFundMe pages.”
Instead, the department advises that secure donations can be made in three verified ways: through the City of Angleton website, mailed to the Angleton Police Department, or delivered in person at the department.
In a separate post, the Angleton PD expressed deep appreciation for the support shown by the community.
“The Angleton Police Department would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for the tremendous outpouring of support during this difficult time as we mourn the loss of our own, Sergeant J.D. White.”
Despite the loss, the department assured residents that public safety remains a top priority.
“We want to reassure our residents that there will be no disruption in police or emergency services,” they noted.
Sgt. White is remembered as a devoted public servant known for his loyalty and service to both the community and his fellow officers.
