American Airlines flights from DFW on Boeing Dreamliner: New routes announced

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines’ new “Flagship Suite” luxury offerings are taking flight this summer. Now, there are even more routes from DFW being added to the schedule later this year.

Travelers from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will have the option for daily direct service on the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to Auckland, New Zealand; Brisbane, Australia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and London starting this fall and into the winter.

The Brisbane and Buenos Aires flights on the 787-9 start Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, respectively. The London service also begins Oct. 26. The Auckland flights will begin Jan. 5. The Auckland and Brisbane daily service will run through March 28, while the Buenos Aires service will run through Jan. 5. Daily service to London will run through Jan. 5, with a second daily flight added starting Dec. 3.

The 787-9 “P,” a Boeing Dreamliner equipped with more premium seats than any other in the airline’s fleet: 51 so-called “Flagship Suites” and 32 premium economy seats.

But you can probably expect to spend a small fortune on those premium options. American’s current Flagship Suite offerings from Chicago to London — where the service starts July 5 — are listed for around $7,000-$9,000 round trip.

“We want this to feel like the recliner in the sky,” American Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden told WFAA in May.

The Flagship Suites feature ultra-premium seats that not only have lie-flat seats, but also the ability to convert the seat into a “chaise lounge” style configuration.

Premium seats include leg rests, wireless charging capabilities and headrest “wings” for additional privacy. All seats, including those in the main cabin, have Bluetooth connectivity so passengers can use their wireless headphones with the airline’s in-flight entertainment system.
