Amazon reveals where drone package deliveries may launch near Houston

Amazon plans to bring Prime Air drone deliveries to the Houston area through a Richmond fulfillment center project.

RICHMOND, Texas — Nearly four years since Amazon first launched a delivery drone in College Station, the Houston area is getting Prime Air.

Josh Brundage, senior manager of commercial operations at Amazon Prime Air, told the Houston Business Journal that Amazon’s HOU6 fulfillment center at 10507 Harlem Road in Richmond would be the first Houston-area market to see Amazon drones delivering packages.

Brundage said that Richmond was selected due to its fulfillment center and active customer base.

“Once those two things are identified, we can start to roll out from there,” he said. “Richmond’s a really good example where there’s a good customer base and an existing fulfillment center that could work with us.”

Amazon filed a registration with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation at the HOU6. The $2.25 million project lists drone launch pads and storage facilities as well as a 1,800-square-foot office. TDLR filings are preliminary and subject to change.
