Laura Wilson showcases unseen Mexico photos at Meadows Museum

The Meadows Museum will debut Laura Wilson’s photo exhibition on September 14.

DALLAS — True to its “Prado on the Prairie” nickname, the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University is displaying new works of Spanish art in the year ahead.

The museum will open its 2025–2026 season this fall with a new photo exhibition by Texas photographer Laura Wilson, along with several other major shows highlighting Mexican and Spanish art.

The exhibition, Roaming Mexico: Laura Wilson, opens Sept. 14 and runs through Jan. 11, 2026. It will feature nearly 90 photographs taken by Wilson during her travels across Mexico over the last 40 years. Many of the images have never been seen before. The photos document scenes from the U.S.-Mexico border to cities like Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende.

Wilson is best known for photographing the American West and for portraits of well-known authors, but this exhibit focuses on her lesser-known work from Mexico. Wilson is also known as the mother of famous actors Luke and Owen Wilson.

At the same time, the museum will display Manuel Álvarez Bravo: Visions of Mexico, a collection of photos by one of Mexico’s most famous photographers. The images come from the Meadows Museum, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and the Dallas Museum of Art.

In early 2026, the Meadows will host the only U.S. showing of Raimundo de Madrazo, the first major retrospective of the Spanish painter. Madrazo was known for his detailed portraits of wealthy families and everyday scenes from the late 1800s and early 1900s. That exhibition runs from Feb. 22 to June 21, 2026.

The museum will also continue its Meadows/ARCO Artist Spotlight series, featuring Spanish artist Rubén Guerrero. His work focuses on abstract painting and modern styles.

Museum officials say the season will offer visitors a chance to explore both historical and modern art from Mexico and Spain.
