Experts suggest AI may become uncontrollable.
HOUSTON — Artificial intelligence is beginning to behave more like humans—and that could mean it’s starting to evade our control, according to expert Dr. Patrick Dicks. He says AI systems are evolving rapidly, bringing real concerns about potential consequences for society.
“There have been some articles that have been posted recently about AI starting and learning to avoid human control. We’ve seen this in scary movies. What does that mean exactly?” asks reporter Stephanie Simmions—voicing people increasing concerns.
“What that means is artificial intelligence is thinking like a human” Dr. Dicks said.
Dicks, a specialist in artificial intelligence, explained that it’s in the very structure of AI. He explains how AI neural and deep networks mimic the way the human brain works. As a result, machines are beginning to make decisions and learn independently, mirroring human reasoning.
“All of the information it is gathering is mimicking the human brain,” he said. “And that is also how AI is escaping human control.”
The rapid development of AI technologies has raised questions about how much power humans retain over the systems we’ve created. Dicks warns that without proper oversight; AI could grow too advanced to manage effectively.
“One of the big things that we have to do—we have AI doing very sophisticated tasks, but we are not pouring a lot of money into research and development into how to get AI to not shut down and also not become completely human where no one can control it,” he said.
He emphasized the urgent need for clear guidelines and oversight to ensure that AI operates within ethical boundaries.
“There has to be rules and regulations and make sure AI is ethical,” Dicks said.
While the idea of machines escaping human control might sound like science fiction, experts like Dicks argue it’s becoming a real-world issue—one that demands attention before it spirals out of reach.
