Many staff members remained by his side for more than two decades, a testament to the strong culture Brown fostered.
GRAPEVINE, Texas — The Grapevine community is grieving the loss of Steve Brown, the longtime owner of Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano.
The Esparza’s family confirmed to WFAA that Brown “passed away suddenly and peacefully early Saturday morning, June 28.”
In a tribute shared on social media, the Grapevine Edit described Brown as more than a restaurant owner — a “pillar of our Main Street community,” a “loyal leader” and a friend whose impact extended far beyond the kitchen.
“Someone who created a restaurant culture so strong that some of his team stayed by his side for over 20 years,” the tribute read.
Brown helped turn Esparza’s into a beloved restaurant in its 40-year history. Known for its Tex-Mex cuisine, famous margaritas, and vibrant patio scene, the restaurant has become a landmark in the Grapevine community.
“The Esparza’s family appreciates the outpouring of condolences and support we have received. We are grieving along with the entire community,” the restaurant said in a statement to WFAA.
Brown’s deep connection to the restaurant was matched by his devotion to his late wife, Denise, who passed away before him.
“Tonight, we find comfort in knowing they are reunited,” the tribute read.
As Esparza’s celebrates its 40th anniversary, the moment is now also a chance to remember the man who made it all possible.
“Raise a glass and toast to a Grapevine legend.”
The Esparza’s family said funeral arrangements are still being finalized and will be shared on Esparza’s social media once confirmed.
