Anthony Sanders was fatally shot in a Galleria garage dispute allegedly over comments about his fiancée.
A second suspect in the shooting death of a Marine veteran in a Galleria parking garage is now in custody. Police say 22-year-old Justin Guzman turned himself in on a murder charge Monday.
Guzman and 23-year-old Marko Cinan are both charged with murder in the shooting death of Anthony Sanders, a Marine veteran and father.
Sanders, 30, was fatally shot on June 3 in the Orange Garage at The Galleria. Police believe the dispute may have been triggered by comments made about Sanders’ fiancée. Their 10-month-old son was also in the car at the time of the shooting.
Bond for Cinan was set at $1 million during his initial appearance in Probable Cause Court. He was scheduled to appear in criminal court on Monday, but the hearing was reset.
Sanders’ parents, both retired from the Army, say they plan to attend every court hearing in pursuit of justice for their son. They say their son was killed while protecting his family
“Anthony passed away protecting his son and his fiancée,” Anthony’s mother, Ronyel Sanders, said. “That’s what he does.”
Anthony Sanders was described by his family as being on the right path in life, active in his church, and looking forward to marrying the mother of his young son.
“We’re here for justice, justice for Anthony and also to stand for what he stood for as a person, and also to bring awareness to what’s going on in today’s society here in Houston,” said Frank Sanders, Anthony’s father. “This was uncalled for.”
“I’m glad that Anthony stepped out of his vehicle because had he not stepped out, the baby was in the car, the fiancée was in the car and the angle, he stepped out, if he stayed in the car, I do believe they would be hurt also,” Ronyel Sanders said.
Police say Cinan’s criminal history includes a prior drug charge and an auto burglary. We’re working to learn more about Guzman.
