Taylor Community Center burns down

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A community center in Taylor, Texas burned down after a fire Sunday morning, according to a Sunday afternoon press release from the city of Taylor.

The Old Dickey-Givens Community Center was located in Fannie Robinson Park at 903 E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Taylor Fire Department arrived at the scene around 8:45 a.m. and brought the fire under control around 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the release.

The fire destroyed the building, with the city deeming it a “total loss.”

A Taylor spokesperson said “the beloved building held countless memories and was treasured by the community.”

The Taylor Fire Department, along with state and local resources, is investigating the fire and its causes. The city spokesperson said that more information would be released as it becomes available.
