One person died in a crash that closed several lanes of U.S. 75 in Allen Sunday, officials said.
ALLEN, Texas — One person died in a fatal crash involving an 18-wheeler on U.S. 75, officials said.
According to the Allen Police Department, around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a major crash on U.S. 75 at Bathany Drive. Police said preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a white Chevrolet Malibu left its lane and crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights on.
Allen PD said officers and personnel with the Allen Fire Department arrived and found the driver of the Malibu, identified as 52-year-old Rodolfo Rodriguez Sr., of Garland, unresponsive and trapped inside the car. Police say Rodriguez was pronounced dead on the scene.
A passenger in the Chevy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, Allen PD said in a release.
Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and cooperated with investigators.
Both southbound lanes were closed as officers investigated and reopened around 11:20 a.m., officials said.
Allen police said they will continue investigating the cause of the crash, police said.
