Republican leaders called on Tarrant County GOP Chair Bo French to resign Friday due to a now-deleted social media post.
TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Several Republican leaders called on Tarrant County Republican Party Chair Bo French to resign Friday after French published a social post several officials called “bigoted.”
The post, which called on his 30,000 followers to vote in a poll asking if “Jews” or “Muslims” are the bigger threat to America, drew backlash from state and local officials. Tarrant County is the most populous Republican-led county in the country. French was narrowly elected to lead the Tarrant County Republican Party in October 2023.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick was the first to publicly denounce the post on Friday, calling for French’s immediate resignation.
“Bo French’s words do not reflect my values nor the values of the Republican Party. Antisemitism and religious bigotry have no place in Texas,” he said.
Just before Patrick posted his denouncement of French’s post, French deleted the poll and posted a statement saying he regrets posting the poll. He later responded to Patrick’s post and said he has no plans to resign.
“I respect the lieutenant governor and the good work he’s doing,” French wrote. “I strongly disagree with his assessment of this situation. I have always strongly supported Israel and I’m not resigning.”
Senator John Cornyn later posted a tweet in support of Patrick, calling on French to resign.
Local officials, including Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and Tarrant County Commissioner Manny Ramirez, also publicly denounced the post.
“Too many examples of Bo French’s bigotry and hate,” Parker wrote on X. “This is one of the most egregious examples. Go fishing on X for some of the other prime examples. Too many to list here. New leadership with the Tarrant GOP is a given. Clear the deck.”
Other officials, including Fort Worth councilpeople Macy Hill and Michael Crain, Texas Sen. Phil King, R-Weatherford, U.S. Rep. Craig Goldman, R-Fort Worth, and State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R-Southlake, called on French to resign this weekend.
The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations also called on French to resign Friday.
“A poll asking Americans to choose whether Jews or Muslims are the ‘bigger threat’ is not only offensive—it’s dangerous,” CAIR-Texas Board Member John Floyd said in a statement. “It fuels suspicion and division during a time when both Jewish and Muslim communities are facing heightened threats across the country.”
The Tarrant County Democratic Party also responded to French’s post Friday.
French previously faced backlash from members of his own party because of his social media posts, the Texas Tribune reported in October 2024.
