An accident shuts down all lanes of I-20 near Terrell, causing significant traffic backup.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — All eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Terrell were shut down Saturday afternoon following a crash, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
TxDOT’s incident map showed the closure near Kaufman County Road 126, affecting traffic in both directions. As of 6 p.m., the map shows that two lanes of westbound traffic had reopened.
According to a Facebook post from the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, the crash is being classified as a “mass casualty” incident involving multiple vehicles.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to WFAA that the crash involved four 18-wheelers and two other vehicles. DPS said there were “potentially two fatalities” as a result of the incident.
Traffic cameras in the area showed a significant backup and multiple emergency vehicles on the scene.
The Elmo Fire Department is asking drivers to exit I-20 at 512 WB and find an alternate route.
