AUSTIN (KXAN) — Delta Air Lines announced it will extend two new nonstop routes from Austin before flights even take off.
Service to Palm Springs, California, is set to begin Nov. 8, while the nonstop route to San José del Cabo, Mexico, is scheduled to begin Dec. 20.
The Palm Springs route was set to operate once a week through April 2026, operating on Saturdays only. Delta announced Friday the route will instead operate weekly between Nov. 8 and Dec. 20, before switching to daily service through February. The route will then switch back to weekly between March and mid April. Currently, no airline flies nonstop between the two cities.
The San José del Cabo route was initially scheduled for only a two-week period, from Dec. 20 through Jan. 5. That route will now operate daily through mid April. Rivals American Airlines and Southwest Airlines already offer nonstop service between AUS and San José del Cabo.
Delta previously reported its number of departures from Austin will be up more than 35% year-over-year. The carrier will operate nearly 60 peak-day departures this winter, according to Paul Baldoni, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning.
Since 2023, the airline has launched or announced 16 new direct routes from Austin. The recent surge propelled Delta to overtake American as the second-largest airline at AUS in terms of passenger traffic for the first time in April.
