McKinney Airport secures $14.8M for new passenger terminal

Just last week, the airport accepted a $7 million grant from the state for improvements on one of its taxiways.

MCKINNEY, Texas — McKinney National Airport (TKI) is receiving yet another grant from the state for improvements to its facilities.

On June 21, Gov. Abbott signed the two-year state budget, which includes a $14.8 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation that will go towards the airport’s new eastside passenger terminal.

The city plans to start construction on the new terminal this summer, with the first commercial flights expected to take off by late 2026.

“Commercial airline service at McKinney National Airport is soon becoming a reality,” Mayor Bill Cox said in a news release. “This $14.8 million grant brings us closer to completing the funding for our new passenger terminal and support facilities, which will be a modern gateway for local and visiting travelers.”

Just last week, the airport accepted a $7 million grant from TxDOT for improvements to one of its taxiways. Phase one of construction is currently underway, and phase two is expected to begin in spring 2027, according to a news release from the city.

McKinney National Airport is one of six airports statewide receiving a part of the $106,800,000 that was approved in the state budget.

“We delivered real results for the City of McKinney this session,” Representative Jeff Leach said in a news release. “The $14.8 million investment in McKinney National Airport will advance critical infrastructure projects that support economic growth, attract new businesses, and enhance the quality of life for our residents. I was honored to play a role in securing this funding and proud to stand with our community in North Texas as we build an exciting future together.”
