Free adoption event to celebrate Williamson County, Georgetown animal shelter merger

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In just a few weeks, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) and the Georgetown Animal Shelter will merge, and to celebrate, both locations will host a free adoption event.

WCRAS said the events are July 19 from noon to 6 p.m. and are for all available pets.

The merger becomes official July 14, with WCRAS’s current campus at 1855 SE Inner Loop serving as the centralized location for shelter services.

“With this change, Georgetown residents will gain access to the full range of programs and services offered by WCRAS,” the shelter said.

Programs and services include:

  • Weekly Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return clinics for community cats
  • Quarterly low-cost spay/neuter clinics offered to residents
  • Microchipping and pet registration
  • Vaccines
  • Sells Pet Hub tags
  • Online listing of adoptable pets
  • Fostering and volunteering opportunities

“This merger was made possible with unanimous approval from all participating regional partners—Williamson County and the cities of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Hutto, and Georgetown—and represents a major step forward in collaborative, efficient, and compassionate animal sheltering,” WCRAS said.
