Fort Bend ISD to appoint community member to vacant board spot

The appointed community member will serve the remainder of the previous board member’s term, which expires in May 2026.

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — The Fort Bend Independent School District is looking to fill a vacancy on its Board of Trustees with a community member after a recent resignation.

The vacancy is for Position 5. The appointed community member will serve the remainder of the previous board member’s term, which expires in May 2026.

The district said the board is required by law to fill the vacancy. After the term is up in May 2026, an election will be held to select a new board member.

“The Board invites qualified members of the community who are interested in being considered for appointment to the vacant position submit an electronic application, which includes statements of interest in serving on the board, and a resume of relevant experience,” FBISD said in a news release.

FBISD said statement of interest should include responses to the following topics:

  • Explain why you want to serve as a trustee in the District;
  • State how long have you lived in the District;
  • State whether you have run for the District’s Board of Trustees before and, if so, when;
  • Describe your involvement in supporting traditional public schools; and
  • Describe your experience in FBISD.

The district said it may schedule interviews with select candidates. The deadline to apply is July 7 at 5 p.m.

To be considered, you must have been a Texas resident for at least a year and lived within the east side of the district for at least six months prior to the appointment. You must also be registered to vote in the east side of the district.

The appointee is scheduled to be announced publicly on July 28.
