SHERMAN, Texas — You never know who might stop by in the morning — and, for one Sherman resident, that surprise guest had whiskers and a short tail.
Just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, a bobcat was spotted casually hanging out on a front porch in the 2200 block of Jeremy Circle, right near Fairview Park.
A quick-thinking resident snapped a photo of the feline before it left the area.
“Bobcats are native to Texas and sightings do happen occasionally, especially near wooded areas,” Sherman police said in a social media post.
Though generally elusive and not a threat to humans, bobcats may be drawn to neighborhoods in search of food or shelter. Sherman police say this sighting is a good reminder to keep a close eye on small pets, and to skip leaving food outside that could invite wildlife in for an unexpected visit.
Police said Sherman Animal Services has been notified of the sighting.
In the meantime, police further advise area residents to stay alert and maybe double-check your porch before stepping out for your morning coffee.
Sherman police are encouraging community members to report any wildlife sightings or activity that may pose a concern.
