Austin requests proposals for Colony Park Sustainable Community development plan

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, the city of Austin requested plan proposals on how best to develop the Colony Park Sustainable Community.

“The final plan should be informed by a robust community engagement and planning process to ensure that existing Colony Park residents are supported and can stay in their community long-term,” the city said.

The 208-acre development in northeast Austin was launched in 2012 through a $3 million grant.

“While the Colony Park Sustainable Community Initiative aims to bring significant benefits to northeast Austin, it’s essential to consider the potential displacement challenges that similar developments have faced,” the city said.

According to the city, the Housing Department was searching for a vendor with a “proven record of developing and implementing displacement mitigation strategy plans that have been shown to successfully reduce residential and small business displacement in communities adjacent to new developments.”

The city said plans should include:

  • Tenant stabilization
  • Homeowner stabilization and expansion
  • Neighborhood stabilization
  • Economic mobility

A Request for Proposals is open now through July 15, according to the city.
