Camp Cho-Yeh threat: Former employee arrested, police say

“Threats to this community, especially involving our children, will always be taken seriously,” said Livingston Police Chief Matt Parrish.

LIVINGSTON, Texas — A man has been arrested after making threats toward a Christian camp in Livingston, Texas, police say.

The Livingston Police Department said they were made aware of the threats, allegedly made by a former Camp Cho-Yeh employee, late Sunday morning by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

“Threats to this community, especially involving our children, will always be taken seriously,” said Livingston Police Chief Matt Parrish.

LPD said the sheriff’s office obtained a warrant for 23-year-old Mario Bernal, who was arrested without incident when an LPD officer noticed him in his car near the camp entrance.

Police said they are proactively patrolling the area around the camp while an investigation is ongoing.

We don’t know the specific details of the alleged threats.

“I commend the quick and thorough investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the response by our officers,” Parrish said.

Camp Cho-Yeh described itself on its website as “a place where both youth and adults have grown in their faith and character, while having fun, and helping people grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Local law enforcement agencies work together to stop a potential threat to children and staff at Camp Cho-Yeh.
