Man shoots mother in Harris County, drives to Leon County to shoot father: HCSO

A man shot himself after killing his parents and shooting a law enforcement officer, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man is dead after he shot and killed his mother before driving about an hour and a half to shoot and kill his father Saturday night, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The sheriff said the incident started when the Texas Department of Public Safety was in a standoff in Leon County with a man who had indicated he had killed his parents.

At around 9 p.m., DPS conducted a welfare check at a home in Harris County and found a woman, believed to be the man’s mother, dead.

During the standoff, Gonzalez said the man opened fire on law enforcement, hitting an officer. He said the law enforcement officer is expected to survive.

According to Gonzalez, when law enforcement ultimately entered the home, they found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Another man, believed to be the suspect’s father, was also found shot to death. A dog was also found dead at the scene.

Gonzalez said he believes the man shot and killed his mother before going to shoot and kill his father.

“Very tragic situation all around. We’re going to have to piece it all together and see what may have transpired,” Gonzalez said. “Condolences go out to any other living family members and to this community as well.”
