AUSTIN (KXAN)– The Austin Police Department asked for the public’s help to search for a suspect who officers believe was involved in a hit-and-run.
The incident involved a cyclist who was riding through a crosswalk with the walk sign on when a vehicle struck the person. Police said the crash happened at the intersection of East 53rd 1/2 Street and Airport Boulevard on Saturday, June 7 at around 10:30 p.m.
According to APD, the driver of the vehicle left the scene and did not stop to render aid or call 911.
Ben Slamka, who was on the bicycle that was hit, says he is now hoping someone saw something or got video of the incident.
“I understand people in the moment might get anxious or scared and make a poor decision, but I wish they would own up to it,” said Slamka.
Slamka says he suffered a concussion, cuts and bruises and a shoulder injury from the crash.
APD said the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years of age, approximately 5-foot-9-inches tall and around 165 lbs. The suspect’s vehicle was described as possibly a dark colored four-door Subaru Forrester.
