LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — The Leander Independent School District is looking at finalizing its budget for the 2025-2026 school year. The board is expected to vote on it during a Thursday night meeting.
With more than 42,000 students, Leander ISD is looking at a more than $460 million budget.
Earlier this year, the district made staffing cuts, stating that it had to reduce its central office staff by six percent and nearly the same amount at its schools. That was around $15 million alone.
The district said at the time it lost around $1 million in Title I funds. That money helps support resources for low-income families. Another $1.5 million was cut from a Medicaid reimbursement program that helps cover costs for therapy for students with disability.
On Thursday evening, the board is also expected to look at reallocating some of its funds for bond projects. It includes converting 17 facilities to LED lighting, resulting in annual energy cost savings of around $350,000.
It is also expected to create a new emergency access route that connects Vandegrift High School to Four Points Middle School.
The meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. A livestream is also available to view on YouTube.
