Aubrey ambulance crash kills 1, injures 2 at FM 424 intersection

According to the city, the ambulance had its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash.

AUBREY, Texas — One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving an Aubrey Fire Department ambulance, officials said.

According to a news release from the city of Aubrey, the crash occurred at the intersection of FM 424 and Fishtrap Road while the ambulance was responding to an emergency call on Highway 377.

The city said the ambulance was traveling with its emergency lights and sirens activated when it collided with another vehicle in the intersection. The driver of that vehicle was critically injured and later died at the hospital, according to the release. Two passengers in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Police later confirmed to WFAA that the driver was a 23-year-old woman, and the two injured were children.

Paramedics in the ambulance were not injured and were able to provide aid to those hurt in the crash, the city said.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking loss,” the city said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.”

The city said the crash is “under review” by an outside agency with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
