McKinney, TX: $300 million amphitheater breaks ground, officials say

The amphitheater is expected to open in summer 2026, according to a press release from the venue.

MCKINNEY, Texas — A new premium music venue broke ground in McKinney, setting up a summer 2026 open date.

Sunset Amphitheatre, powered by EIGHT Elite Light Beer, broke ground Friday, June 13, on the future site of a 20,000-seat facility located on 46 acres near U.S. 75 and Highway 121, according to a press release from Venu Holding Corporation.

The venue is expected to open in the third quarter of 2026.

About 500 city of McKinney officials, venue sponsors, partners, investors and live music fans attended the groundbreaking. The event also featured a song swap from singer-songwriters Robert Earl Keen and Turnpike Troubadours’ Evan Felker, the release states.

“We’re so excited to be here,” J.W. Roth, VENU founder and CEO, said in a press release. “We’re gonna build the most luxurious, fully seated, multi-configuration, multi-seasonal venue in history right here in McKinney.”

The Amphitheatre will have upscale features and a unique investment model. Instead of selling premium seating, the venue’s fire pit suites will function as real estate investments, the Dallas Business Journal previously reported. Owners of these suites can secure a small ownership stake in the venue as well as lifetime ticket access and a source of rental income.

The venue will also feature a members-only Aikman Club, a canopied roof and wind walls and elevated food and beverage options, the release states.
