Ambassadors enhance the work of Take Care of Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Take Care of Texas, an initiative of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ, provides valuable information on how to help keep the state’s air and water clean. It offers tips and other resources on important topics like conserving energy and water, along with how Texans can reduce waster while recycling properly.

In 2024, Take Care of Texas started an ambassador program to help educators learn more about those resources available and to spread the word to their students on the importance of being a sustainable state.

KXAN Meteorologist Rich Segal spoke with Stephanie Dempsey, education and outreach specialist with Take Care of Texas.

Dempsey said they provide teachers with the information necessary to educate their students on conserving Texas’ resources. She said the program had a successful first year when 15 educators signed on to be the first Ambassador class.

The program meets virtually during the school year so that Take Care of Texas can dispense the resources needed for the program to be successful. It also has contests during the year.

Ambassadors in the 2024-25 class will have to reapply to be ambassadors in 2025-26. Dempsey said they want to exceed last year’s count in the next class.
