Police say the device turned out to be a replica, and there doesn’t appear to be a threat to the public.
PLANO, Texas — A replica grenade found in a bag left on a bus prompted a police investigation in Plano Monday, officials say.
Police say the bus driver found what appeared to be a grenade, which turned out to be an inert replica, in a bag left by a passenger June 15, which prompted a call to the Plano Police Department.
The bus was evacuated near the intersection of Spring Creek Parkway and U.S. 75, leading to traffic impacts and impacts to businesses in the area, police say.
“Our Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) responded to assess the situation. The owner of the bag was contacted and he advised that the device was an inert grenade that had belonged to his grandfather and is an inert war replica,” Plano police said in a statement.
An X-ray of the device confirmed it was inert and doesn’t appear to pose a threat to the public, police say.
Police are still investigating the incident.
