AUSTIN (KXAN) — Eanes ISD superintendent Dr. Jeff Arnett announced in a Monday afternoon press release that he will retire from the role at the end of July.
“Leaving Eanes ISD after nine wonderful years is an emotional decision,” Arnett said. “Although the Board graciously extended my contract, I believe this is the right time for fresh ideas and new energy to lead the district forward. It has been the greatest honor of my career to serve this exceptional community.”
Arnett served as superintendent since January 2022, and as a deputy superintendent for six years before then. The press release included some highlights of his term:
- Oversaw the creation of the first Eanes ISD Police Department;
- Entered the state’s Teacher Incentive Allotment program; and,
- Successful passage of the 2023 bond referendum.
Eanes ISD Board President Kim McMath thanked Arnett and said his leadership was “a period of dedicated leadership and meaningful contributions.”
“Dr. Arnett’s service has been marked by integrity, vision and collaboration,” said McMath in the release. “His thoughtful leadership has positioned the district for continued success while navigating both challenges and opportunities.”
Arnett said he will return to a “previous post” at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, but would work with trustees and district leaders “to ensure a smooth and effective transition.”
The Eanes ISD Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday to start its superintendent search.
