HOUSTON — Flights were temporarily stopped at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) Thursday night when a vehicle hit a gate, then accessed a service road in a cargo area, officials told KHOU 11.
The driver, a woman, struck a gate and later fled the scene, according to Houston Police Department command. A spokesperson for Houston Airports said the driver was able to access a service road in a cargo area.
The FAA issued a ground stop for the airport, citing “Security” as the reason. Houston Airports said the area was swept and officials confirmed the driver exited the secure area. Flights resumed at 9 p.m.
No one was injured and there was no damage to the airport.
Houston Airports was looking into the security breach.
As of 9:45 p.m., Houston police had left the scene.
