AUSTIN (KXAN) – It’s no secret playing basketball in the Southeastern Conference isn’t for the faint of heart. Texas hoops teams now know they will also have a tough opponent coming to town in non-conference play.
In the ACC/SEC challenge, the Texas women’s basketball team will welcome perennial power North Carolina to Austin. That marquee showdown is set to take place Thursday, December 4 at Moody Center.
On the men’s side, Sean Miller’s squad will have Virginia coming to central Texas. That game will be the day before on Wednesday, December 3 also at Moody Center.
The Tar Heels women’s team is coming off a successful season where they earned a three season in the NCAA Tournament. Vic Schaefer’s crew reached the final four after claiming a share of an SEC regular season title in their first season in the conference.
Virginia men’s basketball struggled last year, finishing under .500 overall at 15-17. Texas too will look to bounce back this upcoming season as first-year head coach Sean Miller will lead the group.
Texas and North Carolina have met once on the women’s side back in 1981. The Longhorns and Cavaliers men’s basketball programs will meet for the first time this year.
