The department announced his passing in a statement, describing him as “a fighter to the very end” and a respected presence within the agency and in the community.
VAN ALSTYNE, Texas — A veteran Van Alstyne Police Department detective has died after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 glioblastoma, a brain tumor that doctors determined to be inoperable due to its location and the risks involved in removing it.
Detective Dale Ingram served with the Van Alstyne PD for more than six years and brought with him over 45 years of experience in law enforcement.
In a statement posted to social media, the department said Ingram passed away on Wednesday.
“Anyone who knew Dale knew he was a fighter to the very end,” the department shared. “His presence in the department will be deeply missed.”
Ingram was known for his professionalism, strong work ethic, and “old-school” demeanor. Colleagues recalled his warm smile and steady leadership, noting the lasting impression he left on those around him.
The department is asking the public to keep Ingram’s wife, five children, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and fellow officers in their thoughts during this time.
“He’s the most phenomenal man that I know,” his daughter Whitney Ingram told WFAA in July 2024.
“All of his grandchildren, he’s known as Poppy,” Ingram said. “My children, my nieces my nephews have all gotten to experience Poppy’s World.”
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home, located at 637 W Van Alstyne Parkway. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, June 19, at 10 a.m. at the Van Alstyne Junior High School gymnasium, 1722 N Waco St.
The department closed its announcement with a tribute: “Rest easy, Detective Ingram — we’ll take it from here.”
